Looking Good in Lockdown
So hands up who loved it when lockdown was initially announced. Yes, a few weeks off work, a chance to have a lay in, and enjoy a few PJ’s days. No need to worry about what to wear, or to do your hair or your make up. I was at the front of the queue, I don’t mind admitting.
What you have to be very aware of though is when a guilty pleasure starts to become a habit, and how that could be effecting your mood and wellbeing.
I’m a massive advocate of the principle of looking good, feeling good. And when we slip into our loungewear or our PJ’s we are not likely to produce our most productive work or feel our most glamourous.
Think about it, we wear this attire when we are behind closed doors, when we know it is only our nearest and dearest that see us. Our clothes effect our mindset so it’s especially important in these times that we take extra care of ourselves.
I have worked in fashion retail for over 20 years and the last 3 I have specialised in personal colour and style. I love everything about fashion, in particular shoes !!!!! I gain great joy from fashion and my mission is to empower others. I want to give people the knowledge and the confidence to flourish in their own personal style. I love sharing the amazing effects that colour and style can have on not only your wellbeing but also your life.
So here are some tips that you can use to ensure you are keeping up our spirits and looking fab in lockdown.
1) Wear your make up – This doesn’t mean having on a full face unless this is your happy place. It’s about having a good base it will make you look and feel loads better.
2) Wear colour. It’s very common to live in neutrals (check what you are wearing right now). Colour effects our emotions proven fact. Green is seen to have calming effects, Red is associated with power or danger. So check out your wardrobe what colours do you have lurging in the back. Dust them off and give them an airing. Now at this point not all of you will know what colours best suit you, so stand in front of the mirror put the colour on and see if you notice any changes. Do your features look sharper? Do you have more colour in your cheeks (in a good way) How do you feel when you put it on?
3) Accessories – They are vital to finishing an outfit, they are the cherry on the cake. Now depending on what your clothing personality is, will depend on how many, and what style/size accessorise you need.
4) Dress for Yourself. Think of your clothes as a form of non-verbal communication, they express to others and ourselves who we are, they show our essence. Our clothes are our super power ladies. In the right outfit we can take on the world.
So in lockdown I would encourage you to go shopping your own wardrobe. Have a look through what have you forgotten you had. Dress to impress yourself, we want to be looking in the mirror and smiling at what we see. I guarantee you will start the day with a smile on your face, a spring in your step, and you will achieve great things.
Good Luck, and Enjoy.
