Have you ever heard the sayings “Fake it until you make it” or “Feel the fear and do it anyway” …. if like me these don’t work for you then read on……

Imagine I could say to you from this moment on… you are feeling and becoming more and more confident… each and every day… this wonderful belief is growing of you becoming and feeling more and more confident … now growing strong inside your mind…. how does that make you feel? If this feels a little strange it's because your critical mind (the part of your mind that chatters away telling you all sorts of nasty things about yourself ) is rejecting this.

With hypnosis we can make this happen easily and effortlessly as we can work with the part of your mind to make new beliefs. I worked with one client who went from struggling to do her 60 seconds at network meetings to being confident enough to speak at her wedding. Another client got a new and better job, better pay, a lovely girlfriend and completely changed his life just from being more confident.

We all run loops in our mind, and 95% of these we are not aware of, because they are habits. For example, you have a belief that you are not confident, your imagination creates all sorts of scenarios, for example you have thoughts that if you have your photograph taken the photos will be awful, no one will like them, they will show all your flaws – these thoughts then affect how you feel and how you behave. You may not even be fully aware of these thoughts and actions but they may led to your not dressing your best, not feeling your best and possibly your photos won't be as good as they could be and this reinforces the original belief you had about your photos – does this make sense?

As I mentioned with Hypnotherapy we can change these thoughts automatically. So apart from hypnotherapy what other tips & techniques can you use:


#1: Choose someone you admire, someone you feel is confident, think about how they act and what they do and then pretend to act the way they act, as if you are an actress playing the role of “their life” now whilst this may seem similar to faking it until you make it there is a slight difference. When you “fake it” a little inner voice (your subconscious mind) keeps telling you, you are only faking it whereas when you pretend to be someone else just for an hour or two your subconscious accepts this as it can’t tell the difference between pretend & reality….. remember that film you went to watch and got so totally absorbed you thought it was real and were quite surprised at the end when the lights came on that you were sitting in a movie theatre? The exact same thing happens in your brain.

#2: Use daily affirmation – one of my favourites that I use and get my clients to use is “ I am getting more and more confident each and every day”. Another tip that may be a little more challenging to start with but I promise you it will be worth it is to look at yourself in the mirror every day and I mean really look at yourself and say “I am worth it “ write it on the mirror, stick it on post it notes everywhere and the more you use it, the more you see it and read it you will start to believe it, trust me it works I promise.

#3: List your goals and ambitions : why are you doing what you are doing. When times get tough you can focus on your goals and remind yourself why you are doing what you are doing. Would you go to the airport to go on holiday without picking a destination and booking a flight first – probably not. It’s a lot easier to get where you are going – IF you know WHERE you are going and WHY.
#4: Gratitude : last but not least this is one of my favourite techniques. Be grateful that you are in control, and you have choices. You have the choice in every moment in every situation : you can choose how you react. Be grateful for what you do have, rather than focusing on what you don’t have. Be grateful you can change your life IF YOU choose to. Every single day write down 3-5 things you are grateful for. Try this for 30 days and I promise you, your life will change. The more you are grateful for, the more you will have to be grateful for and your Self belief/ Confidence will grow exponentially.
I really hope you try some of these techniques or all of them if you can. They work, they have worked for me, they work for my clients and they will work for you. The only reason why they won’t work is if you don’t do them and/or don’t do them consistently, taking a half hearted approach is not going to work. Commit to it – what have you got to lose?
